General
Motors has confirmed that its hotly-anticipated 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel
will debut at next week's Chicago auto show. GM first confirmed that the Cruze
diesel would be sold in the United States in 2011.
Although
Chevrolet has yet to reveal the specifics of the Cruze Diesel, the Detroit
automaker has confirmed the compact sedan will be powered by a version of the
automaker's 2.0L turbodiesel. In European guise, the 2.0L diesel generates 161
horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.
The EPA has
yet to rate the Cruze Diesel, but previous reports suggested the car might be
capable of hitting 50mpg on the highway, which would best the current Cruze Eco
by 8mpg.
Interestingly,
Chevrolet is calling the Cruze Diesel's unveiling a “world debut”, indicating
some styling tweaks could be in store for the sedan. At last year's Geneva
Motor Show Chevy unveiled a Cruze wagon with a new front fascia, so it's
possible those changes could make their way to the face of the 2014 Cruze
sedan.
The Cruze
Diesel will be one of 22 new diesel-powered models launching in the United
States this year.
